Equity will be celebrating Variety throughout 2017

Equity will be celebrating Variety throughout 2017.

Variety has a fascinating history and a vibrant future. The union will be celebrating the sector throughout 2017 and promoting the advice and support we offer for those
who work in it.

One of the showpiece events of this initiative will be an event on 16 May. As part of the Celebrate Variety year we will be marking an important landmark in the Spring.
May 16th is the 50th anniversary of the Variety Artistes’ Federation being incorporated into Equity. As the then President of Equity, Felix Aylmer, said at the time: “May our Variety friends find themselves as happy in our joint Association as we feel in welcoming
them!”  We will be celebrating this important date by inviting members who transferred from the VAF to Equity along with representatives of our Variety branches and others to an event in London, hosted by Jimmy Cricket. If you are one of the members who transferred
your membership, do let us know so can make sure you get an invitation.  Contact Mike Day on 020 7670 0235 or mday@equity.org.uk

As part of Celebrate Variety 2017 the union has created a guide to contracts for this sector. The purpose of the guide is to assist members who make contracts directly
with companies or individuals to provide their entertainment services mainly for one-off dates. This will include vocalists, children’s entertainers, comedians, circus performers, magicians and basically anyone who performs their act in return for a fee. The
majority of variety members work in this way and this guide highlights some important considerations when taking bookings to minimise potential problems.

The guide is available from Equity’s head office or online
