Review – The Roxy Risque Show

roxy-risqueThe Roxy Risque Show

Nightly at the Theatre Bar, Costa Adeje, Tenerife
A seven feet tall drag queen, when clad in killer heels of course, cuts quite an imposing figure on the burgeoning Costa Adeje cabaret scene. Roxy Risque is the creation of Newcastle On Tyne born drag queen Tony Race and appearing nightly in this small and atmospheric roadside venue must be a real effort in preparation terms.
Singing songs from the shows, gay anthems and rabble rousing songs, the extraordinary vision that is Roxy Risque cannot be ignored. The OTT observations, barbed comments and sledge-hammer wit come straight out of the drag queen book of bon mot and the scattergun style of comedy is at times irresistibly funny.
Guest vocalist on the night was teenager Jess Long, who hails from Blackpool but is now based in Lichfield. Young Jess has the look of a stage school trained performer and it should have come as no surprise to learn that she has just landed the role of Eponine in a touring UK production of Les Miserable. Her interpretation of I Dreamed A Dream on the night at The Theatre Bar made for compelling and enjoyable listening.
