UK Cabaret News

He we present our regular round-up of the stories which may interest live entertainment fans across the UK.  If you have any stories you would like to see included on this page, just get in touch.

VIVA BLACKPOOL!

Summer season ’23 is hotting up in Blackpool as Viva Cabaret Theatre operator and resident star Leye D Johns and his showgirls appeared at the pre-season Blackpool trade show. Resplendent in a sumptuous pink suit and accompanied by glitzy resident performers from the venue, Mr Johns helped welcome one and all to the event at the resorts stunningly beautiful and historic Winter Gardens complex. A full programme for the summer and throughout the autumn is being unveiled this month.

NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM

After feedback from a well-known web-based holiday booking site, a list of ten UK holiday resorts which receive the worst feedback from visitors, has been compiled. Some on the list may shock and even irritate those who reply on live entertainment for work and venues who rely on seasonal visitors to swell their coffers. In the north of England, South Shields Redcar and Cleethorpes fare very badly on the list, with Southend on Sea and Weston Super Mare in the South also finding many albeit amateur and unofficial critics, offering unfavourable opinions. All five of these holiday hot-spots have much to offer visitors at any time of the year and in our view, their lack of appeal is undeserved, to say the least.

LONDON CALLING

Throughout the rest of the year, we are looking to provide coverage of the London comedy scene, with UK Cabaret review team members available to visit selected venues. If you would like to be included in our coverage, please e-mail mark.ritchie@ukcabaret.com

CURTAINS UP DO IT AGAIN

The Butlins complex in Bognor Regis will again be playing host to the Curtains Up Showcase later this year. (Details on our forthcoming showcases section). The event will run over four sessions, just as it did during 2022.
