Jay Sodogar review

1 EDINBURGH FRINGE
Jay Sodogar
Laughing Horse @The City Café

Stars: 4 stars
An old hand at The Fringe, this comedian has a lovely and witty self-effacing quality, which is both disarming and charming in equal measure.
Referring to his own mixed ethnicity, a joke about the late and great news reader George Elighia is well-aimed and timed to perfection. I caught a soupcon of Mr Sodogar at a preview’s show, before following the man himself into the venue for his relaxed and witty full set.
There are times during the set when this comedian himself appears to let brain loose before mouth is engaged and as a result the delivery appears stilted and lacking conviction at times.
The line in crowd approach seems familiar and cosy nonetheless, but Jay Sodogar has the people skills to extract laughs in a friendly and conversational way. No tilting comedian windmills here. Just an accomplished comedian who is extremely engaging.
